Gym Refurb & Renovation for NRG Gym Group in Gravesend, London

The Customer

The NRG Gym Group selected us to fit their first location in Gravesend, with financial backing to establish 20 new gyms across South East London, Essex and Kent over the coming years. A key element of this project was that the client had strict deadlines from board members and investors. After a set launch date backed by an extensive marketing campaign, the ambitious deadline simply had to be met with no excuses

The Challenge

The client required a full fit out and renovation of an original 18th century gala bingo with the top floor mezzanine gallery kept intact and a new gym complex installed on the lower ground floor within a fresh and modern environment. The aim here was to maintain an impressive contrast of old and new architectural styles.

As this was the client’s first gym, budget constraints and an unmovable deadline had to be met.

With many parties involved in the project, managing stakeholder expectations was of major importance.

The Solution

The concept of design and build played a key part in creating a modern gym complex whilst meeting the strict deadline. We fast tracked the project using a special delivery model which overlapped the design, procurement and construction phases. We also carefully selected suppliers and worked with them to make sure they could achieve earlier delivery dates.

Efficiency was key. Communication had to be straightforward and hassle-free whilst also being thorough to ensure that we met every need of the client and their flagship gym complex. Instead of working with other companies or teams, the build and design departments at Bischell worked together seamlessly within one entity to successfully integrate and overlap different development pipelines whilst maintaining the highest design quality, build quality and client support. A pro-active approach to identifying and anticipating potential bottlenecks also helped us to avoid any situations which could slow progress.

For the build, we carefully listened to the client, shared potential ideas and made sure that we ticked every box when it came to the design, feel, theme, style and layout of their new gym. We also made sure that the heavily contrasting styles of the top floor mezzanine gallery and modern gym complex below still worked together for an aesthetically beautiful interior.
